Is loaded weight the same as MAM?

No. MAM is the maximum authorised mass set for the vehicle. Loaded weight is an estimate of what the vehicle may weigh with people and payload on board.

Why does this calculator ask for payload?

Payload helps you understand whether the vehicle may be used close to its plated limit, but licence category checks should still be made using the official plated MAM.
